Brian Footer Campaign Surpasses Expectations in First Fundraising Report, Demonstrates Strong Grassroots Momentum

WASHINGTON The campaign to elect Brian Footer to the DC Council representing Ward 1 proudly announced today the results of its first financial filing with the Office of Campaign Finance, showcasing the power of community-driven support and a groundswell of early momentum.

As of the July 31st deadline, the campaign has raised over $10,700 from more than 230 small-dollar donations. Notably, over $8,600 of that total came from more than 190 DC residents, underscoring the strong base of support from within the city and across Ward 1.

Because of this overwhelming grassroots response, the campaign has officially qualified for the DC Fair Elections Program, unlocking access to public matching funds that amplify the voices of small-dollar donors and make running for office more equitable.

“Our campaign is fueled by neighbors, not special interests,” said Brian Footer. “These numbers show that the people of Ward 1 are hungry for a new kind of leadership — one that listens first, brings people together, acts boldly, and follows through. This is only the beginning, but the energy behind our campaign is real.”

The campaign’s first filing not only met the requirements for the Fair Elections Program but outpaced the first filing by Councilmember Brianne Nadeau in her 2022 re-election campaign, a strong early indicator of momentum and growing voter enthusiasm.

“Our campaign isn’t just building a budget — we’re building a movement,” said Campaign Treasurer Michael Wray. “To qualify this early for public financing, and to do so with such a large number of small contributions from DC residents, speaks volumes about Brian’s connection to the DC community and his deep roots in Ward 1.”

The campaign’s strong start reflects Brian Footer’s unique position as a longtime Ward 1 neighbor, ANC commissioner, community advocate, and proven problem solver. His platform focuses on delivering real solutions to urgent challenges — from housing affordability and small business stability to public safety and government accountability.

“Our vision is a Ward 1 where everyone belongs and everyone thrives,” said Campaign Chair Teresa Edmondson. “We’re honored by this early support, and we’re going to keep showing up in every part of the ward to listen, organize, and deliver.”

The Footer campaign plans to continue its outreach efforts this summer and fall with a series of neighborhood listening sessions and community events to build on this early momentum.
